These lipsticks are not vegan due to them containing carmine, carmine is a vivid red colour made from cochineal insects and to get the red colour this insect is normally boiled or exposed to hot temperatures like ovens and steam.. gross, and certainly not cruelty free. The other names carmine falls under is cochineal, cochineal extract, crimson lake or carmine lake, natural red 4, C.I. 75470, or E120. Look out for those when looking through ingredients of your makeup products.
